Main Page error reports
![]() | National variations of the English language have been extensively discussed previously:
|
To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.
- Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
- Offer a correction if possible.
- References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
- Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 21:28 on 22 March 2025) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
- Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
- Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
- No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
- Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
- Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

NPOV concerns
Concern: current text of the bullet "Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip kill more than 500 people, ending the Gaza war ceasefire."
Request for modification to mitigate the concern: "Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip kill more than 500 people, including several leaders of Hamas, ending the Gaza war ceasefire."
Reason for concern: The current writing makes it look like Israel's sole goal was to "kill more than 500 people".
Green Montanan (talk) 22:03, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
Please note that even the article that is being referenced has both versions for the purpose within the infobox. Green Montanan (talk) 22:07, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- I think this was used because it was the simplest stating of known facts at the time. Having said that, I am unconvinced that pointing out that a few Hamas leaders were included within the hundreds of civilian casualties is really any more NPOV than the existing version. Errors in "Did you know ..."
- ... that the French agreed that Angkor Wat was in Thailand when they began to colonize Cambodia?
- This was edited by SL93 during queue composition from the original hook, which had the when clause in front:
- ... that when the French began colonizing Cambodia, they agreed that Angor Wat was in Thailand?
- While I understand the queue composition concerns, I'm not sure moving the when clause to the end was optimal, as in my reading it makes it less clear what is being modified ("the French agreed" vs "was in Thailand"). I think it would be better to move it back to the beginning of the hook (which might also necessitate some shuffling to avoid two end-of-hook bold links after another). Doing so while keeping the other edits would give:
- ... that when they began to colonize Cambodia, the French agreed that Angkor Wat was in Thailand?
- Sorry for the late notice, as I've been a bit busy. --Paul_012 (talk) 14:28, 22 March 2025 (UTC), 14:30, 22 March 2025 (UTC)
- I agree it should be changed back; the top version has a completely different meaning! Copying in @RoySmith to help fix if possible. Cielquiparle (talk) 14:57, 22 March 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, I agree. I've changed it back. Ping Ravenpuff who made the change while it was in prep. RoySmith (talk) 15:15, 22 March 2025 (UTC)
- Apologies, I didn't catch the change in meaning myself. I'm not the biggest fan of "when" clauses at the front of the hooks for comprehension reasons, but here is an alternative:
- ... that the French, when they began to colonize Cambodia, agreed that Angkor Wat was in Thailand?
- This avoids using the pronoun "they" before defining what it stands in for, but also removes the ambiguity of the current version. If you think this suggestion is too clunky, please feel free to revert to the original. — RAVENPVFF · talk · 15:21, 22 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Paul 012 are you OK with Ravenpuff's suggested replacement? RoySmith (talk) 15:24, 22 March 2025 (UTC)
- Works well to me, thanks! --Paul_012 (talk) 15:54, 22 March 2025 (UTC)
- OK, I've put that version in place. Thank you both. RoySmith (talk) 16:02, 22 March 2025 (UTC)

- I only fixed a spelling mistake. Angkor was spelled wrong. SL93 (talk) 17:04, 22 March 2025 (UTC)
- Agreed with whom? Secretlondon (talk) 17:07, 22 March 2025 (UTC)
- Obviously, with whoever it was they were having a disagreement with about it. The hook isn't wrong the way it is, it just leaves out some information. Hooks are supposed to be short. There's always going to be tension between providing more information and keeping it terse. If somebody reads the hook and wonders who they agreed with, they'll click the link to find out. Which is exactly what we want. RoySmith (talk) 17:34, 22 March 2025 (UTC)

I forgot to copy over my blurb improvements (at Template:POTD/2025-03-23) to the protected version. Could an admin please do this? I think the image sizes should also be enlarged to 350px to better match the usual size of images at POTD. — RAVENPVFF · talk · 13:38, 22 March 2025 (UTC)
